In 2008, a few neighbors formed a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to buy and renovate the Old Methodist Church building in Berlin’s town center and make it available to the greater community for daily use.
Our vision is to create conditions for connecting for people from all walks of life; a place where artists and musicians can showcase their talent; a place where people can experience live music and art and meet those who create it; a place where generations can comfortably interact - all within a unique gathering space.
Following three years of consulting with builders and donors plus seven years of renovation work, 19 Carter opened its doors to the public in October of 2017.
Those who are "just browsing", just woke up or just got out of jail. Those who are sixty but not grown up yet or teenaged and growing up too fast. Those who are single, married, divorced, filthy rich, or dirt poor. Those who think the Earth is flat, work too hard, don't work, or can't spell. Those who are inked, pierced, or both. Those who live in town. Those who don't live in town.
Whether you live in the past, in the future, or in the now...we're glad you came!

Our vision is for everyone to feel welcome while connecting with each other, enjoying artwork and live music,
learning about local events and businesses, making a puzzle, doing homework, playing ping pong, using Wi-Fi, reading a book, visiting with their neighbors, or just stopping by to warm up by the potbelly stove.
To make this financially viable, we ask patrons to pay what they can knowing that some are in a position to pay more and others less.
Thank you for your generosity!
